Fake Christmas trees aren’t for everyone. While you can use them every year without having to buy a new one, to many people there is simply no substitute for the real thing.

According to the Carbon Trust, a two-metre artificial tree has more than ten times the carbon footprint of a real tree that’s burned after Christmas. Not only that, but as real trees take around 10-12 years to grow to the optimal size of six feet, they can also provide a habitat for wildlife and capture carbon from the atmosphere during that time.

The most environmentally-friendly ways to dispose of your real tree after the festivities are over, are to re-plant if you have purchased a potter tree, or have it chipped to spread on the garden. Burning the tree, such as on a bonfire, only emits the carbon dioxide that it stored up when it was growing, so is also considered a good method of disposal.

We’ve listed a few places in the West Midlands where you can get your hands on an au naturale Christmas tree. One of the businesses is based in Birmingham, while the other two can be found not far away in Solihull.

Some of the businesses on this list sell a range of items, not just Christmas trees. This includes decorations, firewood and other species of trees.

So, will you be getting a real Christmas tree for your living room this year? If so, here’s where you can do just that in Birmingham.
