'I only went for the weekend but this gorgeous village near Birmingham stole my heart'

Journey to a quaint village just an hour’s drive Birmingham for perfect escape like something out of ‘The Holiday’

My friend and I thought of renting a charming cottage in the English countryside when we had the idea of finding a scenic, relaxing place to catch-up and create memories.

We were inspired by the film, The Holiday, which starred Cameron Diaz as an American trying to flee the States to a charming tiny English village.

I was pretty pleased by this idea as it’d be great for me as I could escape the busyness of Birmingham, without having to travel down to London for us to have a weekend catch up and enjoy the changing seasons.

Neither of us wanted to hang out in Birmingham where I’m from or London where she’s based, as we were keen to get away from the bright city lights and get in touch with nature’s fresh air.

My friend found this idyllic cottage in in the Worcestershire hamlet of Blackminster, which is near Evesham to rent for the weekend.

It was really quiet and isolated.

But really beautiful.

The road was unnamed and I was glad to find a modest cottage once I arrived on the Saturday evening.

I was astounded by how beautiful and warm the one-bed cottage looked.

It had a cosy ambiance that was really comforting for a dreamy night’s sleep.

Blackminster is pretty easy to get to from Evesham, and we enjoyed its greenery and walking along its country roads.

After preparing a delicious dinner, we watched films, and went to sleep and planned a cosy Sunday.

The next morning, we ate a delicious breakfast and we quickly realised Blackminster was too quiet, and definitely had not much to do and so we ventured to just outside the West Midlands to Moreton-in-Marsh.

The Gloucestershire village, was about a 20 minute drive away from the property.

Moreton-in-Marsh is a tiny, quiet thriving market town nestled in the Cotswolds, and teeters of the Gloucestershire edge.

We walked around the High street and found lots of cosy, tiny little boutiques that we spent lots of time perusing in.

One called Jacana stood out and I was seriously impressed by their vast array of colourful jumpers.

The shop worker working at Jacana was friendly and was happy to help as I eventually settled on one jumper to take home with me.

After going around the different shops.

We were keen to explore the great English outdoors, we went for a long Sunday walk, and it was surprisingly quite warm, a rare treat of autumn sun.

So we went on a long walk, bumped into sheep - which for two city-raised women we were so amazed by, albeit a little frightened when we thought about how we were the only two people we could see for miles and miles.

There are plenty of walking routes in this part of the Cotswolds. AllTrails was a handy tool in finding them in Moreton-in-Marsh.

After our walk, we finally built up a huge appetite and found this really charming Sri Lankan restaurant called Tikiri located in Moreton-in-Marsh.

The flavours of meals was really warm and comforting.

It was a gorgeous place to relax and enjoy delicious food in a rustic Cotswolds setting.

All in all, Blackminster was a perfect village escape away from the big city, it is also is located near towns like Moreton-in-Marsh where you can spend the day exploring and creating memories.
