The Great Birmingham Run is back

Thousands of runners are training hard this week ready for the Great Birmingham Run this Sunday. Both the 10k and half marathon are taking place on the same day, with the event starting at Aston University at 8:30am. The route goes through the city centre, taking runners past the Bullring, to Cannon Hill Park, around Edgbaston cricket ground before a final section through Digbeth before the grandstand city centre finish. Come along and cheer on the runners, if you’re not taking part. The event raises thousands for charity. Here’s the info on road closures and start times for the half marathon and 10K

Jungle Book Reimagined at the Birmingham Hippodrome

Over at the Birmingham Hippodrome - Jungle Book Reimagined will be playing on Friday and Saturday. As the title suggests, the show is a re-imagination of the Kipling classic, reinventing the journey of Mowgli through the eyes of a climate refugee. The show features an original score with state of the art animation and visuals, telling a story about our intrinsic need for belonging and the importance of connection with our natural world. Thrill seeking at Bear Grylls Adventure

Another option for budding adventurers out there over the weekend could be Bear Grylls adventure. It’s an indoor and outdoor activity centre, offering a range of activities such as archery, escape rooms, axe throwing, simulated skydiving, rock climbing, assault courses and plenty more. Brass bands playing at Centenary Square

Over at Centenary Square on the EBBF outdoor stage, over 40 brass bands will be performing for free from Thursday to Sunday. The programme includes acts such as the European Youth Brass Band, the City of Birmingham Brass Band and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band. The project was made possible by the Arts Council England through the National Lottery Project Grant. Head over to B: Music for more information.
