A popular pub in Great Barr has reopened its doors after undergoing a major six figure refurbishment.

The Beeches pub on Thornbridge Avenue has been revamped from top to bottom to create a more modern look and feel for customers. The pub, which is part of the Hungry Horse brand, is also opening a new kids play area for youngsters to enjoy.

The welcome news of investment into the pub comes at a time when some city establishments have been forced to close, incluidng two popular cocktail bars in Birmingham.

Located in the Great Western Arcade, the Pineapple Club - which was ranked as the 14th best cocktail bar in the country - announced that they have ceased trading with immediate effect. And a Sake bar in the arcade - Shibuya Underground, has also closed its doors.

The pub hasn’t disclosed the exact amount they’ve spent on the refurbishment.

What will be different about The Beeches?

Internally, the pub has received a full overhaul of its décor and a new layout. The restaurant has been expanded to increase its capacity significantly, creating a more open plan, spacious environment.

The old function room is also being replaced by an exciting new Wacky Corner, providing the ideal setting for kids to enjoy a brand new soft play area, while offering parents the chance relax with a new self-service coffee station and enjoy a varied food menu with something for everyone.

The Wacky Corner gives parents the chance to book the Beeches for birthday parties, and customers are still able to reserve space to host larger private events such as birthdays and christenings in the wider pub area.

The pub also a new designated sports area with pool tables, dart boards, TVs, and multiple projectors for live sport. Customers can download and sign up to the Greene King Season Ticket App to receive 10% off selected drinks.

The pub’s garden space has also received a complete revamp, increasing the outdoor capacity by more than 50. These renovations include the installation of additional covered and heated seating, with a new TV screen being added to further enhance outdoor sports viewing. A new outdoor bar has been introduced, while the children’s play has had a full makeover.

What about the menu?

The pub will continue to offer a wide range of pub favourites on its food menu, from steak and ruddles ale pie, to hand battered fish and chips, plus a range of deals including kids eat for £1 every Monday. Thatcher’s and Birra Moretti have also been added to the pub’s drinks menu.

As a result of the investment, the pub has also hired 17 new team members.

What has the pub’s manager said about the refurbishment?

Donna Boden General Manager of the Beeches, said: “This renovation is such a positive change for the pub and the local community. It has allowed us to enhance every aspect of our offering to our customers, ramping up our family friendly identity with the addition of a Wacky Corner and appeal to fans of live sport with loads of dedicated sports viewing space.

“We’re excited to welcome customers back to experience the new and improved pub, giving our customers a quality dining experience and a great place to enjoy a drink both inside and outside in the new garden area.”
