The fire caused massive damage to a building at a Solihull football club. Fire crews are still checking for hotspots

Firefighters are tackling a blaze at Hampton Football Club on Field Lane, Solihull today (Tuesday, July 1). They responded shortly after 5.05 am with five fire engines and crews from Solihull, Sheldon, Bickenhill, Hay Mills, Highgate and Ward End.

The fire affected the bar area in a single-storey building at the football club. A ground floor cellar and a pitched roof insulated with straw and wooden panelling were 100% damaged by fire in this area.

13 firefighters confined the fire to this area to prevent significant fire spread to the nearby changing room facilities. They then removed fascias and roof panels to gain access to the roof space, which showed signs of collapse due to fire damage.

A partial closure of Lugtrout Lane from Field Lane to Hampton Lane was implemented whilst crews worked to bring this incident to a close.

These roads have now reopened. West Midlands Fire Service crews have now scaled down their presence at the scene. One fire engine remains to aid with damping down, whilst firefighters continue to remove debris from the affected building. They will be conducting re-visits throughout the day to check for hotspots.
