First founded in 1993, House Of God became one of Birmingham’s most important underground institutions during the mid ‘90s, regularly taking over the city’s legendary Que Club, which closed down in 2017.

The huge party was was captured by renowned British fashion photographer Terence Donovan in 1996, shortly before his death. Until recent times the photos had been left in a drawer of House of God founder Chris Wishart, mixmag reports.

Birmingham techno party House of God has released a 24 track charity compilation to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary. The charity compilation called ‘Brum as F**k’ is raising funds for Midland charities supporting mental health and homelessness.

It is the latest project to celebrate the renowned club which was based at the Methodist Central Hall on Corporation Street. Cream and Atomic Jam nights were also held there.

Earlier this year, a new documentary on Que Club was released on YouTube, following the story of its opening in 1989 and a number of its key parties, including House Of God. The project was headed by researcher Jez Collins of Birmingham Music Archive.

There was also an exhibition showcasing the Que Club was held at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery during the Commonwealth Games and it could be headed to London.

The Que Club hosted the likes of Run-DMC, Blur, Pulp and Primal Scream, plus DJs Carl Cox and Paul Oakenfold. David Bowie performed in 1997 for £15 a ticket, and Daft Punk included 45 minutes of their live set at the club on their album Alive 1997. It closed down in 2011.

The House of God charity compilation was released on July 17. Among the contributors are residents Surgeon, Regis and Sir Real, as well as friends of the party such as Jerome Hill, Neil Landstrumm and Dave Tarrida. To listen to snippets you can go here: House of God Band Camp.
