The Donkey Sanctuary in Sutton Coldfield is home to three donkeys that are up for adoption. However, it is not the kind of adoption where the animal is rehomed.
Donkeys are usually seen as working animals - who help their owners in building their livelihood - but they can also be sweet and docile. It is rare to have a donkey as a pet - and thus, the animal charity cares for these animals where they can have access to vast fields.
These donkeys came to live in the Donkey Sanctuary after either being abandoned or after facing cruelty. They are well cared for at the charity and you can make their lives better by adopting them for as little as £3 a month.
While you won’t be able to take the animal home, you can contribute towards their wellbeing. If you want to be a contributor, you can visit The Donkey Sanctuary’s website to do so.
Here are the three donkeys up for “adoption” in Birmingham:
1. Cisco
Cisco is the only miniature donkey on the adoption scheme. But what he doesn’t have in height he makes up for in personality. He was brought over from the States to be a breeding donkey, and when things didn’t work out for him he joined the Donkey Sanctuary in Birmingham. Cisco’s a kind and gentle donkey who loves going on enrichment walks in Sutton Park and enjoys meeting new people. But when he’s back in the yard he loves to make sure his friends know who’s boss!
2. Shocks
Shocks suffered unthinkable cruelty at the hands of his previous owner. It left him with physical, mental and emotional injuries. But with time, love and kindness he is now well on the way to recovery. Despite what he has had to endure, his confidence is growing every day. He now lives at the Donkey Sanctuary centre in Birmingham.
3. Jimmy
This small donkey is always up for some fun, keeping his grooms on their toes. He likes to play hide-the-broom and runs off with the muck bags when they are trying to clear the yard. But he’s not alone in his escapades, he’s got his accomplice and best friend Skittles. Jimmy and Skittles are very rarely apart and when they are together, they make sure that they are enjoying themselves, even at the expense of their loving grooms!
