Birmingham Dogs Home continues its mission to rescue and rehome dogs in need, despite rising costs and increasing demand.

Rachel Frost, communications officer for Birmingham Dogs Home said: “So at Birmingham dogs home, we've got the urgent winter appeal, we desperately need the help from local communities to be able to continue to keep our doors open for the 1000s of dogs that we rescue every single year.

“The challenges that we're facing at Birmingham dogs home is from medical bills. So our vet bills last year were over £540,000 pounds. It cost us £6,000 pounds just to continue to keep our doors open every single day.

“So not only is there medical bills, we've also got high utility costs as well that everyone else is facing but the dogs itself, they need lots of extra support from our canine carers team. So dogs are just with us a little bit longer.

“They're taking up that space in the kennels until we can find them that loving home.”

Every contribution to the home makes a tangible difference in ensuring these dogs receive the care they need until they find a loving home.

The team's dedication is remarkable, but they can't do it alone - they need the community's ongoing support.

Rachel added: “So the support we are really desperate for from the local community is obviously monetary donations, vet bills to continue open our doors, utility bills and obviously food but they can also donate items so that, food, toys, anything dog related, and we're just thankful for all the support we've already received this year.

“People are very, very giving in the winter months, and we're just thankful of all the donations we've received. It really does make a huge difference, and we just want to take this time to say thank you to those people. We know that everyone out there is struggling as well, and so for them to put their hands in their pockets to help our homeless dogs. We really do appreciate it.

“Caring for homeless dogs since 1892. We look after around 2,500 Midlands dogs every year, rescuing, reuniting and rehoming 365 days of the year.”
