British Chinese food recently came under fire on TikTok with foodies around the world being shocked at how the cuisine has been adapted to suit our tastes - especially by adding chips as a side.
That being said, nothing will stop us Brummies from enjoying a Chinese takeaway on a treat day with the the food of East Asia regularly topping the list as the nation’s favourite. With this in mind, Betway has revealed the average cost of a Chinese takeaway in cities across the UK, analysing the cost of two mains and two sides - including chips, a must have for many Chinese takeaway fans.
And Birmingham has been named the most expensive city in England for Chinese takeaway, costing on average £27.83 per order. The average cost of a chicken chow mein in the second city is £8.33, while a sweet and sour dish costs £9.43 on average. A side dish of chips costs £3.66 and spring rolls cost an average of £6.40 (the most expensive in the country).
London makes a close second - with the average order costing £27.47; third is Liverpool where Chinese food lovers are paying an average of £27.17 per order; four is Belfast where they pay £27.07; fifth is Bristol where an average order costs £26.37.
The cheapest city in the survey is Newcastle where Chinese takeaway customers are paying £24.28. If we look at the whole of the UK, Edinburgh is the most expensive place for a Chinese, with the average cost being £28.92.
