West Midlands Fire Service carry out life-saving training drills at future retirement development

On the day, the West Midlands Fire Service team used one of the cranes at the construction site on Holland Road – home to the town’s newest over-60s retirement development - in a training scenario involving a ‘casualty’ – in this case a dummy, needing to be rescued from height.
The crew were also given a tour of the development beforehand to understand more about the way modern retirement homes are built and to identify ways in which attending an incident on a construction site can be as safe and efficient as possible.

Therefore, we are delighted to be able to assist West Midlands Fire Service as part of their training, which will be of even greater benefit to the wider community. Hosting the crew for their training is also a great example of the consideration that goes into the safety of our future homeowners, who can move into the development knowing that local services are well prepared for any type of local emegency.”

Watch Manager at West Midlands Fire Service, Mark Engers added: “We want to say a huge thank you to McCarthy Stone for allowing us to use their site. Exercises like this are vital in developing and maintaining our skills and getting valuable experience. This kind of scenario gives us a more realistic outlook that standard training is unable to provide. As a result, they help us keep people safe.”
