A junior football team in Sutton Coldfield have started their new season in style thanks to the support of their newest shirt sponsors.

Sutton United Tigers U13s have been backed by Miller Homes West Midlands, who provided a donation of £1,000 for the club to purchase brand new home and away kits for their players ahead of the new football campaign.

The housebuilder, who is currently building new homes at its Rectory Gardens development off Rectory Road in Sutton Coldfield, awarded the money to the club following their application to Miller Homes’ Community Fund initiative.

Gary Jones, coach of Sutton United Tigers U13s, said: “We must state how grateful we are to Miller Homes for backing the football club this year. Raising money to support grassroots football is always difficult and with the increased cost of living, parents and clubs are finding it harder and harder to find sponsorship or funding.

“So for Miller Homes to support us through the Community Fund initiative has been amazing, and a real weight off our shoulders so the parents, coaches and players can all focus on enjoying being together and playing football – in their very nice new kits, to boot.”

Miller Homes has re-opened its Community Fund for the second and final round of 2024 applications to be made and considered by the developer. The application process will close on Monday, October 28.

The housebuilder prioritises supporting groups within the communities across all 10 of its trading regions, including the West Midlands, who participate in sport, promote wellbeing and/or the environment, or are linked to education.

Groups can apply for between £250 and £2,000 through the initiative, with successful recipients of the Community Fund notified later this year.

Carl Cooke, sales director of Miller Homes West Midlands, said: “The Community Fund is a fantastic initiative created by Miller Homes to help support some of the best and most deserving groups from across our region with financial backing to help them achieve their goals.

“We have proudly supported Sutton United Tigers U13s with enough funding for the club to purchase new home and away strips for their players this season.

“It’s great to see the players in their new kits enjoying playing football, creating their own community environment and representing Miller Homes while doing so.”
