The UK's first national summit to tackle single-use plastic pollution
A powerful new summit uniting individuals, businesses, councils, and communities to drive ambitious action on single-use plastics and plastic pollution has been announced.
The Plastic Free Gathering UK, a one-day summit of talks, takes place on Saturday 20th September 2025, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Birmingham City Centre (and online on Zoom), from 10 am to 6 pm. Attendees will hear from leading voices across the UK’s plastic-free movement, showcasing innovative solutions and collaborative strategies through case studies, interactive discussions, and networking sessions.

Kids Against Plastic, Surfers Against Sewage, Zero Waste Scotland, Party Kit Network, Projects Against Plastic, GoUnpackaged, The University of Portsmouth's Revolution Plastics Institute, and the University of Birmingham's Plastics Network.

In-person tickets are £55 per person (£30 concessions), including refreshments and a two-course lunch, while online attendance via Zoom is available for £15.
Inspiration Behind the Gathering
Founder and organiser Greg Hewitt explains: “I’ve been campaigning on the issues of single-use plastics since 2019, and the issue of single-use plastic pollution hasn't gone away, with the plastics industry looking to triple production by 2025. The Plastic Free Gathering is a direct follow up to the Global Plastics Treaty, currently happening now in Geneva, building on what is negotiated there, taking the next vital steps for action on plastic in the UK."
