Did you know there is a Kingfisher Explorer Scout Young Leader Unit in Cole Valley?
A Young Leader Unit for Explorer Scouts (boys and girls aged 14 to 17) has been established and provides opportunities for young people to learn and develop new skills and to participate in a wide range of activities. All the young people in the Unit are volunteering with other sections in Scouting. They might be helping with Squirrels (boys and girls aged 4 and 5), Beavers (boys and girls aged 6 to 8), Cubs (boys and girls aged 8 to 10) or Scouts (boys and girls aged 10 to 14). As Young Leaders they will learn about programme planning, running games and activities, communication, listening, how to demonstrate and teach different skills and activities and first aid.

Daniel Fowler said, “The young people in the Unit will have fun, make new friends and try out various different activities. They will also learn and develop skills including leadership, teamwork, self-confidence, social skills, problem solving and responsibility. These skills will help them to get employment, apprenticeships or further education.”
Robin Barrington said, “These young people will be the volunteer leaders of the future. It’s great to help shape the new generation of volunteers. It’s fantastic to see how they develop as individuals and how they make new friends. As leader of the section, I get the opportunity to visit Scouts across the District and it’s great to see the huge diversity we have in the area.”
The Unit also gets the opportunity to take part in activities such as camping, climbing and laser tag and is invited to participate at District activities.
