A year on from its return to Birmingham, MEC Consulting Group announces significant growth for its third office.

In just 12 months, the multi-disciplinary technical consultancy has built a team of ten specialists, established new Civils and Structures disciplines, and created a thriving base for its Group Management function.

“MEC has always had an active client base in and around Birmingham and since returning to the city last year, there has been a strong demand to reconnect,” explains Rob MacDonald, MEC’s Regional Director. “This momentum has resulted in notable successes during our first year including growing the team from two to ten; adding new disciplines; securing new residential development work for Harper Crewe, Bromford Homes and Stonebond Properties; and strengthening our relationships with other Birmingham-based consultants such as Richborough, IM Land and rg+p Ltd.

“Birmingham is rapidly evolving, particularly where we are in the city centre. The business community is vast and diverse. There is also a vibrant after-work scene we have supported through groups like RAC and Women in Property that have helped reconnect us with existing clients and introduced us to new ones.

“Our first year has exceeded our expectations and our projected growth means we are now actively recruiting to bring more roles into the Birmingham office. We are particularly seeking Engineers and Technicians to support the growth of our pre-planning disciplines including Flood Risk & Drainage, Transport, and Geo-Environmental,” adds Rob.

New technical appointments in MEC’s Birmingham office include Principal Civil Engineer, Liam Hyland; Civil Engineering Apprentice, Ryan Green; Civil Engineer, Daniel Steventon; Associate Structural Engineer, Perry McEwan; Senior Structural Engineer, Ryan Moore and Principal Structural Engineer, Andrew Tsang. The firm has also welcomed Hayley Knight back to the role of Group Head of Marketing and Business Development.

MEC’s Managing Director, Alex Bennett comments: “Our growth in Birmingham has been exceptional and is underpinned by a successful recruitment strategy. This has enabled us to attract some of the city’s leading professionals, who bring a fresh approach to our Civils and Structures offering and are already leading on detailed design work for schemes in Worcestershire, Daventry and Cheltenham.

“I am also especially pleased to have established our apprenticeship programme in this office, as this has proven to be a vital resource of talent across the wider business.

“Investment in Birmingham, its suburbs and the wider West Midlands continues at pace, especially in the residential sector following changes to the NPPF. With a multi-skilled team now in place, we are excited to continue growing our presence by delivering positive development across the region,” concludes Alex.

MEC’s Birmingham office is located with Northspring, a heritage building on Temple Street. The firm’s additional offices are located in Leicester and Brighton.
