Marie Curie hospice gardens ready to welcome visitors

The stunning gardens at the Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands will be open to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme on 23 June.

From 11am until 4pm, volunteer gardeners will be on hand to show visitors around and answer any questions, as well as being able to talk about the work of Marie Curie in the community. Refreshments will be available to purchase and visitors are invited to take part in fundraising games.

Entry to the gardens costs £4 per person (children free) and tickets can be purchased in advance at findagarden.ngs.org.uk or in person on the day.

The Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands in Solihull offers in-patient care, a Support and Wellbeing Hub, specialist care at home and bereavement support to adults, children and young people.

Do Connolly from Solihull who has been volunteering in the garden at the hospice in Marsh Lane, Solihull since it opened in 2013 said:

“The patient rooms at the hospice are all arranged around the gardens giving easy access to both patients and their families and are such an important part of the hospice.

“Our team of 27 volunteers have been working hard throughout the year to ensure the garden is looking beautiful and full of colour and a peaceful space for our patients, families, staff, and volunteers to enjoy and spend some time with nature.

“We look forward to welcoming the local community to the hospice on 23 June to enjoy the grounds. Visitors can buy something for their own garden from the plant stall, take part in a silent auction or try their luck at the tombola. Tea and cakes will be available in the garden and in the hospice Bistro and games provided to keep the children entertained.”

“Marie Curie’s longest standing charity partner, the National Garden Scheme, raises money entirely through volunteers opening their beautiful gardens to visitors in exchange for a charity donation.
