Local opticians puts charity in focus with fundraising success

A team from two opticians has been busy fundraising for charity, raising more than £1,700.

Colleagues from Specsavers’ sister stores in Sutton Coldfield and Mere Green took part in the 8.5 mile Royal Sutton Fun Run to raise funds for the Cancer Support Centre. The 24-person team were also supported by a Specsavers’ home visits car that led the runners round.

The teams have been busy fundraising through their JustGiving page and collecting money from the local community, donating an impressive £1,765 to the charity.

‘We’ve been overwhelmed with support for our fundraising,’ says store director, Andrew Pennicott. ‘We’d like to thank every single person who donated to the cause and helped us reach our fundraising goal.’

To continue their commitment to fundraising, the team are also supporting the charity at their Autumn Fayre on Saturday 21 September, running a stall to give people a glasses MOT in return for a small donation.

‘The Autumn Fayre always has a lovely atmosphere and it’s a great way for the local community to see what the centre does for people. We know times continue to be tough at the moment, but if anyone can spare a donation, we would be really grateful.’

The Cancer Support Centre was founded in 2001 and helps people and their loved ones living with cancer. To find out more visit: suttoncancersupport.org/.
