Former Birmingham City striker Clinton Morrison is expecting another vintage performance from his old club when fellow-form team Charlton Athletic come to town this weekend.

Morrison has been impressed with the strength and style of Chris Davies’ team and reckons Blues are simply too good for the chasing pack.

“They [Charlton] are probably, along with Birmingham, the two in-form teams at the moment in League One so it should be a fascinating game, Morrison said. “I wouldn't underestimate Charlton, that's for sure, they will be hard to beat and they'll cause Birmingham a lot of problems.

“But I do think Birmingham will be too strong. I think if Charlton went there and got a point, [manager] Nathan Jones would bite your hand off because the way Birmingham are playing at the moment, I can't see any team getting near them.

“One of the goals they scored the other night against Cambridge, that was gold, and it was unbelievable passing from a League One team.

“I think Birmingham will be too strong for Charlton. But Charlton's battle is to finish ahead of Wycombe and Wrexham. They're the two teams that they're chasing down at the moment.

“I don't think they'll catch Birmingham; I think Birmingham have got too much class. They are sneakily coming up on the outside and Nathan Jones has got the experience in these divisions to get promoted.”

Chris Davies’ side were too much for Cambridge United in midweek with Kieran Dowell scoring the picking of the bunch in a 4-0 win. The result put Birmingham seven points clear of second placed Wycombe Wanderers – and with a game in hand.

Blues will look to extend their lead at the top of League One with the visit of Charlton in a 3pm kick-off at St Andrews tomorrow.
