The National Technology Awards, now in its ninth year, celebrates pioneers in technology and recognises organisations that demonstrate innovation, excellence, and impact in their respective industries. These awards are among the most comprehensive celebrations of technological advancements in the UK.
The Student Energy Group, a Birmingham-based tech-led energy business, has been shortlisted as a finalist, which is testament to its transformative impact on the student housing sector. Founded in 2021 with a vision to go beyond traditional utility services, TSEG has developed an innovative platform that empowers students to take control of their energy usage while providing landlords and letting agents with seamless billing solutions.

Emerging as a key player in the PropTech market, TSEG has achieved a strong B2B retention, serving over 10,000 homes through integrations with leading technology platforms. Alex Back, Sales Director and one of the founders of TSEG, commented: “Despite navigating industry-wide challenges, we have remained committed to driving positive change in the student housing market. We are thrilled that our dedication has been recognised by such a prestigious award and we're looking forward to the big night!”

TSEG’s nomination highlights its recent successes, including strategic partnerships and technological advancements. In 2024, TSEG became the exclusive student utilities provider for StuRents, integrating flexible utilities packages directly into tenancy bookings. This led to a 68% increase in sales. Strengthening its market position further, the company launched an API integration with Goodlord in November 2024.
"TSEG remains committed to ‘simply doing the right thing’ through various charity partnerships, including The Way Wolverhampton and SIFA Fireside. The company has also planted over 8,000 trees and sponsored a 1,000m² wildflower meadow in support of The Future Forest Company to promote biodiversity. Looking ahead, the TSEG team will take on a sunrise climb of Snowdon this spring."
The winners of the National Technology Show Awards will be announced at the black-tie awards ceremony on Thursday, 14th May 2025, in London.
