Birmingham-based adult mental health hospital welcomes Lord Mayor to open day

King’s Norton Hospital, a leading acute mental health facility in Birmingham, recently hosted a highly successful open day to unveil its newly refurbished facilities. The event welcomed distinguished guests, including the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Ken Wood, and Lady Mayoress Barbara Wood, alongside healthcare professionals and members of the Active Care Group senior executive team.

The hospital provides specialist care for adults with severe and complex mental health conditions and accommodates up to 32 patients in its acute setting. The extensive refurbishment includes enhanced therapy rooms and a dedicated occupational therapy kitchen, designed to help individuals regain essential life skills and support their journey toward independent living.

During the open day, Hospital Director Craig Ward led the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress on an exclusive tour of the facility. This included visits to the therapy suite, the sports area which is designed to encourage physical well-being and the multi-faith room, which offers a tranquil space for reflection and spiritual support.

A key highlight of the event was a presentation by King’s Norton Hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Yousuf Zakaria, who provided insights into the hospital’s vital role as one of the UK’s largest specialist mental health facilities.

The services they are providing really are vital to the people of Birmingham.”
