On a crisp Sunday morning, November 17, the World Mission Society Church of God hosted a litter pick around Five Ways Roundabout in Birmingham.

Local church volunteers united with members from Manchester to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Church of God. They were joined by Councillor Matt Bennet of Edgbaston.

The litter pick continued from Five Ways Island, parts of Hagley Road, down Broad Street to the residential area around Essington Street. Within two hours, 187.7kg of litter had been put into 38 bags by enthusiastic volunteers.

Councillor Matt Bennet expressed his thanks to the volunteers, saying, “There is quite a big crew out today, doing some volunteering, litter picking. I have to say, they are doing a fantastic job. There’s loads more bags being filled. There is lots to do and we have a really dedicated, motivated team of people here, who are really doing their bit for the local community. So, thank you to everybody who turned out today.”

A regular volunteer highlighted the joy of participating in the litter pick, stating … “I love carrying out litter picks with the Church of God. It’s very hands on and a great way to start the week. Also, the positivity of the group that have a common goal to do good for society and the environment is just amazing. I just love it.”

As Five Ways is a major commercial area of Birmingham city centre, helping it to stay clean is always beneficial to local community.
