New replacement revealed for Wildwood on New Street, City Centre

The once-vacant unit, Wildwood, has been waiting for a new tenant since its closure in April.

This space is soon to be filled with the restaurant chain, known for its American-southern menu, that has successfully established its presence across the globe.

The American chicken brand, Popeyes, is set to establish a new presence on Birmingham’s New Street. The former Wildwood branch, which closed its doors in April after a seven-year run, is currently being transformed into a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

The new Popeyes will be located at 66 New Street, joining the ranks of Wingstop and KFC, which are situated at numbers 62 and 63. Popeyes’ menu is not limited to chicken wings and tenders, but also includes breakfast wraps and sandwiches.

Earlier this year, Popeyes launched a delivery-only kitchen in Birmingham. The brand, which made its UK debut in 2021 with a London store, has announced plans to open 30 more locations in 2024.

Popeyes has plans to kick off the launch of its Birmingham location with a series of celebratory activities, the specifics of which are yet to be announced. While there is no confirmed opening date as of now, the goal is to be operational by this summer.

Tom Crowley, CEO at Popeyes UK, said: “Following the success of our Birmingham delivery kitchen earlier this year, we're thrilled to announce that we will open the doors to our first West Midlands restaurant, in the heart of the city centre this summer.

"The New Street restaurant has been a target location for us since we landed in the UK and this opening forms part of a bigger plan for Popeyes in the West Midlands. We're looking forward to announcing further locations in the region very soon."
