What challenges led to the closure of Simpson’s Bar?

Like many businesses in the hospitality industry, Simpson’s Bar faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite their best efforts to adapt and continue serving their loyal customers, the increasing costs and difficult trading conditions over the past two years have made it unsustainable to keep the bar open.

In a statement on their Facebook page, the Simpson family expressed their sadness over the closure:

"With great sadness, we must announce the forthcoming closure of Simpsons. Trading conditions have been so difficult for the past few years and the decision, whilst necessary, has been put off for too long. We will be forever thankful to those guests that held special celebrations with us and came in to have fun, lots of lasting memories have been made. Thank you to our current team and all past team members that have helped make Simpsons what we envisioned 8 years ago.

We are aware that this month two other hospitality venues have made similar announcements, a sad reflection of yet more decline in the Town. We wish you well and share the difficult emotions that we all are dealing with."
