Aston Villa finally get their 2023/24 Premier League campaign underway on Saturday afternoon as they take on fellow European hopefuls Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
Having picked up three wins and three draws in six matches throughout pre-season, Unai Emery’s side are in fine form but the real challenge begins now as the English top-tier action begins again.
Villa already know what Newcastle can offer having drawn 3-3 with the Magpies to kickstart the Premier League Summer Series in the USA last month.
Eddie Howe’s men didn’t lose a single game in pre-season as they won five and drew two. Only the Villans and Chelsea could halt Newcastle from winning, meaning they’re brimming with confidence.
Emery, who will have been analysing for weeks ahead of this match, will likely put out one of the strongest lineups possible to give Villa the best chance of a positive result.
