Sporting CP boss Rúben Amorim and former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur gaffer Andre Villas-Boas have been named amongst the potential front runners for the vacancy but it’s Sevilla head coach Julien Lopetegui that is the current favourite.

The ex-Real Madrid and Spain manager is currently in charge at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium but that could be about to change.

Here is what is being reported about Lopetegui’s future and what it could mean in the race to become the next manager of Wolves:

It is reported that Sevilla are set to sack the former Real Madrid boss either on Wednesday or Thursday and bring in the Argentinian on a two year deal.

Despite securing Champions League qualification in each of his three seasons in charge and winning the 2020 Europa League, the 56-year old is under pressure with his side sitting 17th in La Liga having won just one of their opening seven league matches.

Lopetegui has been in charge at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium since 2019 having previously been head coach of Real Madrid, Porto and the Spanish men’s national team.

Lopetegui was already the ‘favourite’ for the Wolves job before news of his Sevilla exit was apparently confirmed.

When the club first announced the departure of Bruno Lage it was actually Sporting CP boss Rúben Amorim that was thought to be the front runner but news reports quickly emerged suggesting he was unlikely to leave the Portuguese side.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas is a name that has been touted and either he or Amorim would become the club’s third successive Portuguese head coach following Lage and his predecessor Nuno Espírito Santo.
