Birmingham City and West Brom are both said to be interested in signing players from Sheffield Wednesday.

Birmingham City and West Brom have been linked with making a move for two of Sheffield Wednesday's players.

Blues will be playing in League One this season whilst the Baggies' play-off tie with Southampton is evenly poised after a goalless draw at the Hawthorns. It's been just over a week since the regular season ended but the rumour mill is going in to overdrive and now we have learned of two potential transfers that could take place this summer.

According to our friends at The Star, Birmingham are looking at George Byers as a potential signing for next season. He is out of contract at Hillsborough this season, and his future is a bit unclear.

Byers was loaned out to Blackpool in January despite the Owls' initial stance being that they would like to keep him. The 27-year-old made 16 appearances for the Seasiders this season as they finished eighth in League One and they are reportedly interested in keeping him. The Star list Birmingham along with Huddersfield Town, Rotherham United and Barnsley as clubs that are interested whilst Oxford United and Bolton Wanderers are said to have made enquiries.

He has a decent amount of experience in League One having featured for Blackpool, Portsmouth and the Owls in the division. Byers has made 76 appearances in total in the third tier with 12 goals and seven assists, though he registered just one goal contribution in his recent spell at Bloomfield Road. He did find himself on the scoresheet against Birmingham earlier this season, netting in the 2-1 defeat back in November in what was Wayne Rooney’s first win in charge.

In other news, The Star also report that West Brom are keen in signing Josh Windass. The Baggies hold an interest in the former Rangers attacker but face competition from Stoke City, Hull City and newly promoted Derby County.

The 30-year-old like Byers is out of contract this summer but talks are underway to keep him in South Yorkshire. He got six goals and two assists in 25 appearances this season and is considered a fan favourite.

Windass has spent most of his career in English football's second tier with 27 goals and 12 assists in 129 games. His best campaign was when he got nine goals and six assists in the 2020/21 season and that was despite his team finishing bottom.
