Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has detailed an exciting conversation he had with owners NSWE, with potential good news about transfers to come.

Unai Emery toasted Aston Villa’s first European qualification in 13 years by deeming it a “champagne moment” before detailing his delight at the “continued support” from club owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens. Securing seventh place on the final day of a scintillating Premier League season, the Villans recorded a famous 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Villa Park.

From being tipped as relegation contenders under Steven Gerrard to achieving a remarkable push up the league standings and getting right in amongst the fight for the top seven, even Emery didn’t believe Europe would be possible when he first arrived. But it was brewing, it’s happened and now the Villa head coach has all the support he needs to continue his progress.

“Yes, [I saw the owners] before the match and we were speaking about how motivated they were because Wes Edens, he came three matches here at home and Nassef as well had more matches because he lives closer, in London. It’s good for them to be here, to share with us and everybody, with the players, to share with the supporters,” Emery said post-match.

“They are very important to this project. They are very committed to this project and they are supporting me always. Of course, when we are winning it’s easier but always I am very grateful for their support, and their help. Then, to be here with our fans – everything I think is for our fans because they are the very heart of the club.”

Emery had a beaming smile as he mentioned the backing he has had from NSWE from the very start, and his admission that they are “very committed to the project” suggests there could well be some movement in the transfer window ahead. Although not outwardly saying he needs more depth, Emery did confirm he would begin conversations soon.

“I will now start preparing for next season. I will speak to the club. The club is working and I’m keeping in touch with the possibilities we can add [signings] for next year; speaking about who we can add and take the decision with players we already have here. We’ll start now thinking about the next project and be stronger than we have been,” Emery continued.
