Another round of fixtures is set to be postponed following the news that this weekend’s games will not go ahead.

Premier League, EFL and the National League have all postponed their fixtures for the weekend of 10/11 September following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Whilst some sporting events continue to go ahead this weekend, football has decided to join forces with horse racing and cricket and bring fixtures to a halt as a mark of respect.

Football at all levels including grassroots will have their fixtures rearranged following the death of Her Majesty the Queen and it is also of the expectation that next week’s games including Aston Villa vs Southampton and Wolves vs Manchester City will suffer the same fate.

Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral is set to take place next weekend and football journalist Richard Buxton reports that regardless of what day it happens to be on, a full round of fixtures will likely be cancelled.

“Next Saturday’s top flight fixtures also expected to be postponed in line with the Queen’s state funeral,” he wrote via Twitter.

“Next available date to play any deferred matches is January 17/18, 2023.”
