We take a look at the Birmingham weather as the Met Office predicts temperatures that are hotter than Barcelona amid the UK heatwave

Birmingham is enjoying a balmy week for weather, as temperatures are expected to surpass those of sunny Barcelona in Spain. Expect to see the mercury rise to 22°C once the early morning fog lifts, giving way to a beautiful sunny day on Thursday.  High pressure dominates, extending the dry spell with only the odd shower predicted, according to the Met Office. As the weekend nears, we can look forward to plenty of sun. Keep in mind, occasional fog might roll in overnight. Whilst Friday to Sunday will boast temperatures on par with Barcelona's, reaching between 20 and 21 degrees Celsius, next week may see slightly cooler daytime temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius.  Unseasonably warm weather combined with clear skies puts Birmingham and the West Midlands on par with Spain. So, this might just be the perfect week to embrace the unexpected sun, just remember to apply plenty of sunscreen and stay safe under the high UV index.
