Thunderstorm and heavy rain forecast for Birmingham amid 10 hour weather warning from the Met Office

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Birmingham - and it isn’t for the sun.
The 10-hour warning is for a thunderstorm with spray and sudden flooding which could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

Hide AdLightning strikes could occur and there is a chance of delays and cancellations to train and bus services and a slight chance of power cuts in some areas.
The weather warning comes as Birmingham basks in some of the best weather so far this year - with sunshine and a warm temperature of up to 22 degrees.
However the summer-like conditions are set to break today (Sunday, May 12) with the 10-hour yellow warning starting at 5pm - with the temperature remaining warm amid rain forecasts. Previous predictions for thunder at 5pm and 8pm have been removed, with the highest chance of rain in the city - 30% - noted for 5pm. Here’s the forecast from the Met Office:

Today: A dry and bright start to the day with thundery showers developing in the afternoon bringing heavy rain, possible hail, and gusty winds. Feeling very warm Maximum temperature 25 °C.

Monday, May 13
Another dry day with sunny spells through the afternoon, though not as warm as Sunday. Becoming more unsettled into the evening with outbreaks of heavy rain across western parts. Maximum temperature 18 °C.
Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:
Changeable with longer spells of rain on Tuesday, followed by sunny spells and showers on Wednesday and Thursday, heavy at times. Temperatures returning closer to average.
